About Erana

Erana Ferris was a special Māori woman who continues to reveal to her descendants the importance of the legacy she built. She was a strong wahine toa of Ngāti Porou, a trail blazer who was part of many and multiple education and community initiatives including contributing to te reo Māori revitalisation in the 1970s and her legacy and influence remains today.

She was known for her skills in te reo Māori education and negotiation as she had the ability to find cohesive ways to work collaboratively to ensure Māori would benefit. She was a composer, a teacher and believed passionately in the visual arts and stories of her contributions continue to be shared today and we strive to uphold her mana.
