Joan Jenson Native Restoration Project
Waihi Beach School is a small school located in the Western Bay of Plenty. They were proud to have a small patch of established bush within the school grounds named the ‘Joan Jensen’ after the teacher who planted it 60 years ago.
The Joan Jensen grove has significant historical, ecological, recreational and educational values for the school therefore is an important site to preserve and extend
A partnership emerged with Gro Eco, Waihi Beach School and Bay of Plenty Regional Council to support the restoration of the area and the Trust became involved during the planning and funding application for an Environmental Enhancement Fund for project implementation as mokopuna of the trust are involved in the school. This was a significant investment for the area and was a project completed 2022.
